The first scientific article presenting the results of measurements carried out on SOLARIS was published in Scientific Reports, a prestigious journal published by Nature Research.
Exchange bias (EB) induced unidirectional anisotropy has been known for over 60 years. It is most often observed in AFM / FM bilayers and manifests itself mainly by shifting the hysteresis loop relative to the origin of the coordinate system. Scientists from AGH and SOLARIS showed how the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy of the Fe layer can be used to control the magnetic anisotropy of the adjacent layer of antiferromagnetic CoO oxide. Moreover, the obtained results allow for generalization and explanation of the presence of spontaneous exchange bias in many FM / AFM systems.
